World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day: 11 July 2016

The 11 July 2016 will be the inaugural World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day, part of a campaign to raise global awareness about the issue of doctor-induced benzodiazepine dependency, which affects millions of people worldwide and can lead to debilitating withdrawal symptoms that often last for years.

You can buy t-shirts in support of this campaign at the following links (please order by 30 May):

    We read::
    “All funds raised will go towards W-BAD activities and other BDZ activism initiatives”.

    It is not clear where the raised-funds are to be deposited or who will control these funds or exactly what the beliefs of the organizers really are. There are many positions, still alive today” that contradict one another..

    “Activism activities” is vague enough to include positions that T-shirt-buyers may not support. We should know what will be done with the money, who will spend it, what financial accountability will be made, and what particular position will be put forth before we support anything.

    J. Hill –

    The funds will go towards W-BAD initiatives such as printing flyers. The co-founder of W-BAD has already spent some of his own money out-of-pocket to have those designed and printed and also available to the public for printing. Selling the T-shirts was meant to be less of a fundraiser and more of an effort to get merchandise out for advocacy and awareness purposes. The funds raised will be minimal as the shirts were priced near-cost (the shirt campaign website, when it was set up, required that the shirt costs were slightly above cost, as it is a fundraising site after all). This was spelled out on both of the shirt campaigns under “Full Story”.

    For more information on W-BAD’s beliefs, organizers and positions please see the following information (which was linked under the youtube video):

    Yes, there was some concern over the t-shirts, so please allow me this opportunity to explain.

    This initiative was for the sole purpose of trying to raise awareness and to help promote W-BAD.

    The only reason why proceeds needed to be stipulated was because it was a requirement of the t-shirt company.

    Initially, we indicated “As Prescribed” as the recipient, but for legal reasons, they were unable to accept. So then we changed it to W-BAD related costs, which I have been shouldering personally, despite my dire circumstances.

    However, it was later suggested that we could make a personal donation to “As Prescribed” which wouldn’t have any legal implications.

    So, in the end, this is what we decided to do, and I’m pleased to say that after the campaign ended on May 30, we managed to raise $547.14, all of which was donated (as a personal donation) to “As Prescribed” – a documentary film in-the-making about benzodiazepine harms.

    Thank you again to everyone who helped to make this a success!

    Understanding benzodiazepin addiction I would like to state that antipsicotics and antidepresives seems to be forgoten and ignored how badly changes the metabolic system of a person with no possibilities of recover, including provoking diabetis, major neuronal damage and distorting physical perception of the enviorment and therefore provoking stranges responses to normal stimulus including violence in people which was never a trace in their personality. PLEASE TSHIRTS for antipsicotics and seems to me benzoa are used as scape goats WE NEED TO FOCUS PSYCHIATRIC DRUGS IN GENERAL SHOULD BE BANNED therefore Major EFFORTS SHOULD BE GONE TOWARDS STABILISHING OTHER SOLUTIONS FOR the named “mental illness”

    I am so thankful for this world wide effort to educate the medical community and the public to make the dangers of benzodiazapines and the debilitating withdrawal side effects known. Thank you to Dr. Crystal Heather Ashton. The Ashton Manual need to be in the hands of everyone in the medical field.
