Personally from experience I have learnt to mistrust the BBC. Also Simon Wesley it seems is now trying to distance himself from the misguiding and factless opinions he had on m.e.
There will be a backlash on psychiatric mumbo jumbo related to his past involvement in M.E. In the Uk they guess you have a medical illness, they then guess its M.E they then guess you are somehow suffering from some psychiatric illness. As M.E is not properly medically defined in the Uk. Nor is there any attempt to use the numerous clinical pointers, it all gets rather moronic. Other countries use clinical study. Norway is using Rituximab on trials which is successfully curing the illness. It will not be long before folk realise the stupidity of Simon Wessley. Of course without basic objectivity no sense can come from falling onto belief. Professional does not imply sense nor does it promote it. I wouldn’t listen to anything this man said even if it was just how to fry chips. I’m sure the interview will be pleasantly gentle.

Suitably bland. Wessely appears to say not enough anti-depressants are prescribed. Appears to completely miss the point that they don’t always work or aren’t always suitable for people.

Wessely says in this interview that he has never worked for a drug company- yet according to Jama he has worked for Fabry Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly. Maybe he doesn’t see speaking engagements and meetings with drug companies as ‘work’? The public and his patients might see otherwise…

Simon doesn’t miss the point, nor is he ignorant that anti-depressant’s don’t always work and aren’t suitable for a lot of people. He knows full well the issues with anti-depressant’s but he evidently doesn’t care, that’s what is so disturbing about hardline psychiatrists of his ilk- the fact that they do know that people are being damaged yet choose to deny, ignore or obscure the facts.
